Best Inflatable Canoe:
The Sevylor Colorado
“The Sevylor Inflatable Colorado Canoe: Ideally suited for rough waters, lakes, ocean fishing and diving and great for beginners”
This 2-person canoe is close in shape, comfort and styling to the traditional North American Indian canoe – as close as an inflatable boat can probably ever get. According to the manufacturer Sevylor, it is “Ideally suited for rough waters, lakes, ocean fishing and diving and great for beginners”.
Let’s have a close look if this is true and why:
Equipped with a double hull and a thick bottom, this inflatable canoe is extremely resistant to puncture. Bouncing over rocks and stones … no problem. The double hull construction makes it quite rugged, rigid and durable.
Five separate air chambers insure that if you lose pressure in one chamber, the others act as a safety feature. It comes with a skeg that secures a straight paddling line and very good maneuverability. But even without the skeg it tracks quite well.
You might think that this stability and resistance adds some weight. But its only 32 pounds (14.5 kg) make it quite easy to just throw it in your car or carry it with you in an airplane. Once arrived, it is inflated and ready to go in 10 … 20 minutes. The handles on front and back and on each side make it easy to carry it to the water.
Even if it is wider than a comparable hard shell kayak, this canoe is comfortable with double blade (kayak) paddles as well as with single blade ones. It is delivered with removable seats, carry bag, repair kit and can additional be equipped with a motor. I recommend using the original Sevylor 12V motor.
In fact, it seems there has nothing been forgotten: The seats are adjustable and very comfortable, with good back support and come with large fanny packs that can be removed and attached to your waist if you go for a walk; there are paddle holders and plenty of tie points for rope or D rings.

Tips and Recommendations
While we examined all the reviews on the internet, it was very hard to find something negative about the Colorado Canoe. But we found some quite useful hints, how to enlargen your experience on the water – and we don’t want to hide it, of course:
- Kayak paddles should have a length of 90 inch approx. (84 is a bit short, risking that your legs get wet)
- Get the which comes with a pressure gauge that makes it fast and easy to inflate it to the proper pressure, to ensure good tracking.
- You should install the skeg before inflating the kayak, by folding the bottom and bring the 2 black knobs close together. (after inflation it’s almost impossible and this part is not in the instruction)
- For solo fishing put some weight on the bow area to keep it level, and if it is windy you need an anchor (5lbs min)
Over all, this inflatable and very variable canoe is really fun, no matter if for fishing, diving, wild water rafting or … just relaxing.
Sounds quite good after all, but …
